Gap Over DOD Benchmark
I was born in a 400-square-foot boarding house in Manila with 25 people. I lied three times on my Navy application to get in. I was fired from Primary Flight Control at 2 AM after 12,518 perfect cycles.
And over 30 years, I documented what actually works in military transition—counseling 7,877 people with a 79% employment success rate, 27 points higher than the DOD's 52% benchmark.
THE MISFIT OUTSIDER combines memoir (Filipino immigrant to Navy Chief to PhD to federal employee) with the evidence-based CAREHQI framework that turns outsider status into competitive advantage.
This book is for veterans, immigrants, career changers, and anyone who has ever been told they don't fit the mold.

View on Amazon"This book changed how I think about my transition. The CAREHQI framework actually works—I went from struggling to hired in 6 weeks."
"Dr. Astro's story is powerful, but the data is what convinced me. 79% vs. 52% isn't luck—it's a better system. Every veteran should read this."
"Not just for veterans. As an immigrant entrepreneur, the Cultural Intelligence chapter alone was worth the price. This book is universal."
