Developed from over 30 years of experience in military leadership, counseling, and global engagement, CHI recognizes that identity is no longer static—it is a fusion of multiple, overlapping elements: ethnic heritage, faith, professional roles (like veteran or civilian), generational worldview, and digital presence (Astro, 2025). This framework moves beyond simply adapting behavior to a foreign culture, instead focusing on Identity Fusion—the ability to merge these diverse layers into a coherent, adaptive self that thrives under pressure. CHI is vital because it explains phenomena traditional models miss, such as why a Sailor may revert to childhood cultural norms under deployment stress, or how faith-based values stabilize an immigrant's identity during professional transition. It is the core competence for leading, serving, and succeeding in a multi-platform, multi-identity global society.
The CHI Self-Assessment Tool is directly benchmarked against the seven core dimensions of the CHI Framework: Identity Awareness, Cultural Elasticity, Emotional Empathy, Faith Integration, Digital & AI Identity, Generational Fluidity, and Ethical & Moral Action (Astro, 2025, Appendix A). By using a simple Likert scale, the assessment provides a quantitative measure of an individual's proficiency in navigating these complex intersections. The outcome—a score out of 35—offers immediate, actionable feedback on where an individual stands on the spectrum of hybridity, from 'Initial Explorer' to 'Fusion Leader.'
