Dr. Tony Astro is a Navy veteran, counselor, educator, and public speaker who helps service members, veterans, and families translate military experience into civilian opportunity. Born and raised in the Philippines, Tony worked his way through school at the University of Santo Tomas (Economics), then began in finance and customer service before joining the U.S. Navy. Over 23 years of service, he advanced through Human Resources and Educational Services roles—ultimately serving as a Chief Career Counselor across three aircraft carriers, two construction battalions, and multiple naval stations, where he supervised programs supporting the career development of ~2,000 personnel.

Today, Tony leads CommerceWise from Virginia Beach / Hampton Roads, delivering 1:1 counseling, CQ (Cultural Intelligence) assessments & workshops, transition planning, résumé/LinkedIn branding, interview prep, and speaking. His approach blends data-driven assessments (e.g., CareerWise CAN™ and CQ), week-by-week transition plans, MOS-to-civilian translation, and practical employer-language storytelling. He also partners with community groups, universities, and small businesses to build career pathways, inclusive teams, and job-winning personal brands.

Dr. Astro is a Career Services Provider, formerly called a Career Development Facilitator, is a person who has completed the Facilitating Career Development Training Program (formerly called the Career Development Facilitator Training Program) and works in any career development setting or who incorporates career development information or skills in their work with students, adults, clients, employees, or the public. A Career Services Provider has received in-depth training in the areas of career development in the form of up to 120+ class/instructional hours, provided by a nationally trained and qualified instructor.
